Different people have different views regarding our country today. Some may find our country hopeless because of all the corruptions and the never ending calamities. Some may find it still capable of development and change. But capable of change or not we should refrain from thinking of what we “think” of our country and instead think about ways on actually making it a better place. One thing I would do to make our country a better place is to do good deeds no matter how big or small they are.
Doing good deeds gives people hope. I remember a character from one of my favorite T.V series telling his son about doing good things. He tells his son that doing a good deed is like throwing a pebble into a lake, no matter how big or small your stone is, when you throw it into a lake it would always make a riffling effect. Just like the little pebble, doing good things to others always has its effect. When put together, the little peso we give to those in the street or those victims of different calamities would mean a lot to them. They would never feel they are abandoned and thus they would continue life in a brighter light.
A Good deed also inspires others to do good things. When it’s raining and you share an umbrella to someone you don’t know because he or she doesn’t have one, you might not know that the person you help would share his/her umbrella to you or to others next time because you have been an example to him or her. People would believe that despite all the bad things they often hear in the news there is still goodness left in mankind and there are still people out there for them to share their umbrellas with. They might never see the world the same way again.
Good deeds also make people happy. When you offer to help others in any way you can, it would make them smile and it would make them happy and grateful. Being happy is a good thing; it makes us forget our problems even for a while and it makes us open our eyes and actually appreciate the things around us. How lucky we are to meet really nice people or how blessed we are to have people to count on.
Maybe doing good deeds wouldn’t make ourselves or others richer, it wouldn’t make our economy much better, or it wouldn’t even prevent different calamities; but doing good things gives you and the people around you a glimpse of hope and happiness. And to have a country where there is hope, happiness — now that is my idea of a better place. And it only has to start with one little good deed.
